Free events planned at Sierra Place

Free events in November are planned at Sierra Place Senior Living, 1111 W. College Parkway.

Jan Loverin, who served as curator of the Nevada State Museum’s Marjorie Russel Clothing and Textile Center for more than 30 years, will talk about the history of men’s and women’s underwear in Knickers and Bloomers, a presentation at 2 p.m. Nov. 4.

Michelle Lehmann and high school students will present Cyber Seniors, a talk about seniors and their Internet use, at 2 p.m. Nov. 8.

Mark McLaughlin will talk about the Mexican-American War, the Gold Rush and the Comstock mining era at 10 a.m. Nov. 10.

In observance of Veterans Day, the Children’s Performance Choir, directed by Tim Nolte, will sing patriotic songs at 2 p.m. Nov. 11. The choir features elementary school children from Dayton.

Inaugural Kettle Kick-off event planned

The Salvation Army, 661 Colorado St., is holding its inaugural Kettle Kick-off event with food, a silent auction and kettle competition from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 20.

‘Babes in Toyland’ performances planned

Wild Horse Children’s Theater is putting on a classic holiday musical whose characters are based on those of “Mother Goose.”

“Babes in Toyland” will play at 7 p.m. Fridays; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays from Dec. 4 through 13 in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.
