USDA Rural Development Nevada announced Friday the agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture sent $177 million into Silver State rural communities the past fiscal year.
Sara Adler, head of the Carson City-based office, said the funds helped more than 700 families to buy or repair homes and invested more than $28 million to repair community water or sewer systems.
“These are projects that will stand the test of time,” said Adler. “When we help a family buy a home of their own, or when these towns get new water and sewer infrastructure, it builds community. Families can thrive, and towns can attract and grow business.”
The agency provided more than $135 million in rural housing assistant in Fiscal Year 2015, with $126 million in direct and guaranteed home loans to help 673 families purchase houses. Another $9 million went for rental assistance to aid about 1,500 low income residents, according to the agency. Many in the rental assistance arena were seniors and disabled.
In addition, a Rural Development Business Program investment of nearly $14 million went to aid rural economic development, the Adler-led agency reported.
