Prep roundup: Carson High tennis squads top Wooster

Carson High’s girls tennis team improved to 2-1 with a 10-8 win over Wooster Thursday afternoon at CHS.

Seven of Carson’s 10 wins came from singles players Anya Woodbury (3-0), Shaylin Segura (2-1) and Emma Breeding (2-1). Woodbury lost just six games the entire day, all in a second-set tiebreaker win.

Nancy Henrickson and Emily McCaskill went 2-1 (6-2, 6-0) while Elise Brady and Heather Lamotte went 1-2, including a 6-2 win in the last round.

Carson boys triumph

Taylor Saarem and Ryan Tomita each went 3-0 to lead Carson to a 10-8 win over Wooster.

Carson and Wooster are both 1-2. Saarem and Tomita both lost just six games on the day. Jayson Artz and Zach Simms went 2-1. Jared Barnard and Stuart McElhaney and Nico Salm and Danny Dudley each went 1-2.

Douglas girls top Bishop Manogue

Madelyn Landerfelt ran the table, losing only one game in three sets.

On the doubles side, the team won eight of nine sets, but many of them were close.

Carson set for twlight meet

Carson High travels to Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks for the annual Nevada Twilight Classic.

The JV girls start at 6:50 and the JV boys begin at 7:15. The large-school varsity boys start at 8:50 and the girls race at 9:30.

The Carson boys are led by Ian VanRensselaer and Brandon Copeland.

“Ian is improving,” CHS coach Pete Sinnott said. “He is running really strong. Brandon is running really good for a freshman. He is strong and has good technique. Ethan Lopes has also been running pretty well.”

Carson’s girls squad is led by Eveline Delgado, Josefina Ortiz-Osty, Athena Favero and Blanca Sosa.
