Virginia City’s annual Labor Day parade Monday hosting unions from across state

Members of more than a dozen labor unions from across Nevada will participate in Virginia City’s annual Labor Day parade at noon on Monday.

The parade, whose route begins at the Fourth Ward School, 528 South C St., is put on annually to celebrate Nevada’s workers.

“Working men and women keep this country running. On Labor Day, we celebrate the incredible achievements of working people who are standing together to bring economic change so every family can pursue the American Dream,” said Danny Thompson, executive secretary treasurer of the Nevada State AFL-CIO.

Labor groups attending the parade include: Nevada State AFL-CIO, Northern Nevada Central Labor Council, Southern Nevada Central Labor Council, Building and Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada, Communications Workers of America Local 9413, United Auto Workers Local 2162, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245, Bricklayers & Allied Craft workers Local 13, Painters and Allied Trades Local 567, Sheet Metal Workers Local 26, Nevada State Association of Letter Carriers, Operating Engineers Local 3, American Postal Workers Union, Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans, Iron Workers Local 118, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 350, and Professional Firefighters of Nevada.

The hour-long parade also features politicians, Civil War reenactors, classic cars and veterans groups.
