Nevada, national gas prices drop again

Gasoline prices at the pump in Nevada dropped 3.5 cents over the past week, reaching an average of $3.06 a gallon, a survey showed Monday.

The survey of 1,130 outlets in the Silver State was conducted through Sunday, and a similar but wider nationwide survey reported by GasBuddy.com, the website involved, showed nationwide prices were down 6.7 cents a gallon to $2.33.

“Countrywide,” said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com petroleum analyst, “49 of 50 states saw gas prices decline last week, with Ohio the only state to see a slight rise.”

On Monday in Carson City, GasBuddy showed pump prices in a range from $2.51 to $2.85 a gallon. There were three outlets at the low end of that range, one at the highest point. In the range, the largest cluster between that high and low grouped eight outlets at $2.55 a gallon, and another cluster of six came in at $2.75 a gallon.

From the national perspective, which also filters down often to the state and local levels, DeHaan noted crude oil prices fell $2 per barrel in the past week, there continued to be downward pressure on oil prices and in turn weighed on the nation’s average gasoline price. He indicated a switch back to “simpler-to-produce winter gasoline will take effect Thursday” as well.
