Community spotlight: Eagle Valley starts 2016 membership drive

Eagle Valley Golf Course is kicking off its 2016 membership drive on Oct. 1, and if you purchase a new membership prior to Dec. 31 then you can play free golf the rest of this season.

The early bird rate for an individual gold membership is $1,600 ($1,760 after Dec. 31, 2015) and $2,300 for a couple ($2,530 after Dec. 31). A family gold membership is $2,400 at early bird prices and $2,640 thereafter. The prices stated include unlimited play on both courses with a cart, 20 percent discount on non-sale golf shop purchases and 20 percent discount on range tokens.

A silver membership (55 and over) is $800 for early birds and $880 thereafter. It includes unlimited play on weekdays on the East course and is for walkers only. A 20 percent discount on non-sale items in the golf shop, 20 percent discount on range tokens. If you’re riding each player must pay a senior cart fee.

A bronze membership is $900 and includes unlimited play on both courses after noon, and a 50-mile club rate if you want to play before noon. If you sign up after Dec. 31, the price goes up to $990. The aforementioned discounts for golf shop purchases and range tokens apply.

Knighton wins top

flight at Empire

David Knighton shot a net 64 to win Flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s tournament.

John Tierney was second at 65 followed by Jim Shabi at 66. Skip Yokota won Flight B with a 64 and Gene Gaston shot the same score. Ray McPartlin and Duane Carroll were next with 65s. Dick Blankenship won Flight C with a 63, two shots better than Steve Isaacson, Dennis Small and Jack Medeiros. Maurice Dias won Flight D with a 62, three shots clear of Clark Reid and four ahead of Pete Youngdahl and Tom Harlow.

• The golf tournament at Empire Ranch to benefit pancreatic cancer is a sellout. There’s still room for anybody wishing to get into the 5K race which starts at the clubhouse at 8 a.m.

Greenman group wins

at Thunder Canyon

Lynn Greenman, Shirley Westfall, Ellen Ewing and Linda Escher shot 117 to win Thunder Canyon’s Ladies Progressive Best Ball event on Sept. 10.

Joyce Powell, Susan Hood, Sandi Oglesby and Karon Sullivan were third at 126 and Biana Daykin, Donna Schellin, Carol Boice and Tina Hughes were third at 131.

• Duane Lodridge won the individal net stroke play event, also on Sept. 10. Bob Gorrindo was next at 65 followed by Bob Oglesby at 67, Art Lippold was fourth at 68.

Two teams deadlocked

in Dayton Valley event

The teams of Seth Allison, John Downing, Ryan Thompson and Mike Walker, and the quartet of John Cowee, Marco DiGiacinto, Brent Kidd and Jeff Miller tied for first place at 132 at the recent Dayton Valley Palmer Club four-man net cha-cha-cha event on Sept. 12.

Randy Anderson, Ken Dotson, Paul Frazier and Kim Staley were a stroke back at 133. Tied for fourth were the teams of Ryan Blaver, Jason Clark, Rankin Lynn and Andrew Palmer, and Dave Barnes, Eddie Hult, Rick Soto and Randy Steele.

Pemberton group wins

scramble at CVGC

Bob Pemberton, David Morris, John Guidicatti and Neil Bain shot 53.5 to win the four-man scramble event at Carson Valley Golf Club.

Dan Essary, Charlie Serafine, Paul Lockwood and Paul Finan were second at 54.6 and Matt Lindsey, Matt Budjako and Augie Martinez were third at 54.9.

Volleyball clinics

coming to area

Peak Volleyball is hosting two volleyball clinic series in October and November at the Truckee Donner Community Recreation Center.

Each six-session clinic series is designed for fourth through 9th grades to learn the game, improve skills, prepare for school and club tryouts, club season, and/or to have fun with the sport. Open to girls of all experience levels from beginner through advanced. Players are grouped by experience. Light balls available for 4th-6th grade participants.

The volleyball foundation clinic sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays run from Oct. 12-27 from 4:45 to 6 p.m. The clinic to prep players for club and school play is on Mondays and Tuesdays from Nov. 2-15 from 4:45 to 6 p.m.

Cost is $190 for each 6-clinic series, or save $30 when you register for both clinic series at the same time for $350. All players will receive a free custom Peak Volleyball backpack to carry their volleyball gear. Space is limited to 36 participants. Lee shares two

doubles crowns

Dick Lee teamed with Brad Bottoset to win men’s B doubles (6-4, 5-7, 6-3), and then partnered with Bernie Fournier to win mixed B doubles (6-3 and 6-4) at the recent Carson Tennis Club tournament over the weekend.

In men’s A singles, Mike Rahman went 2-0, and in men’s B singles, Steve West went 3-0. In mixed A doubles, Kelvin Ikehara and Rahman went 2-0. Jay and Bradley Wiggins won the parent-child doubles with a 4-0 record. In women’s B doubles, Eilene Stark and Shari Faircloth won in the finals when Laura Hale and Angie Free defaulted. Natasha Long and Ceci Chourre won the consolation title in three sets, 10-8 in the third.
