Shaylin Segura won two matches in singles and Emily McCaskill and Amanda Schulz swept in doubles to lead the Carson High girls tennis team to a 12-6 win over Reed Tuesday at CHS.

Segura won 7-5, 6-0 while Anya Woodbury won 6-2, Emma Breedling won 6-2 and Emma Rosen won 6-1 in singles for Carson.

In doubles, Mikaela Asby and Nancy Henricksen won 6-1, 6-1, Emily McCaskill and Amanda Schulz swept 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 and Elise Brady and Heather Lamotte won 6-2, 6-2.

Carson wins

SPARKS — Carson cruised to an 11-7 win at Reed, building a 10-2 lead after two rounds before substituting in the final round. In singles for Carson, Taylor Saarem won 6-2, 6-0, Ryan Tomita won 6-2, 6-4 and Henry Sturm won 6-1. In doubles for the Senators, Zach Simms and Jayson Artz won 6-3, 6-0, Danny Dudley and Nico Salm won 6-0, 6-1, Stu McElhany and Jared Barnard won 6-4 and Jacob Walz and Bernardo Lopez won 6-2.

VOLLEYBALL

Yerington sweeps

Yerington (14-4) swept Fernley 25-14, 25-11, 25-9.

Kassidy Lommori had nine kills, Brianna Soukup had seven digs, Deseree Landa had six digs and Ashley Rife added 14 assists for the Lions.

Sierra Lutheran sweeps

Sierra Lutheran had another big serving night with 26 aces in sweeping Pyramid Lake 25-18, 25-20, 25-16.

Gabby Kale had eight aces, Brynna Hansen had six aces, Kimberly Eckert had five aces and Abby Ferenz added four aces for the Falcons. Grace Bonafede also had six kills and Macey Creek and Claire Cochran both added six assists for Sierra Lutheran.

Virginia City wins

Virginia City came back to beat Coleville 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-11.

Kelsi Sequeria had two aces, six kills and 15 assists, Bethany Fuller had three aces and seven kills and Chelsea Nevin had two aces, five kills, four blocks and 10 assists for the Muckers (6-1, 1-0).

Virginia City’s junior varsity (3-3, 1-0) also won 25-17, 25-17. Virginia City next hosts Sierra Lutheran Saturday with the JV match beginning at 10 a.m.

BOYS SOCCER

Douglas 5, Fallon 1

MINDEN — Flavi Lopez turned a hat trick while Alejandro Sanz added one goal and two assists on Monday to help spark the Douglas High boys soccer team to a win against Fallon.

Lopez scored two of his three goals to ignite a run in which the Tigers scored four goals during a span of nine minutes before halftime.

Douglas (6-1-1 overall, 2-1 league) is now riding a six-game win streak into its next Northern Division I crossover contest Wednesday night at Reed.

Lopez scored in the 11th minute, assisted by Alejandro Sanz on a direct cross to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Fallon (0-3, 0-2) tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Davis Koenig.

Sanz put Douglas back on top when he scored on a solo effort in the 31st minute. Lopez followed with two goals just one minute apart, one off an assist from Pedro Vega in the 38th minute and the other off an assist from Sanz in the 39th minute.

Javier Vega capped the run in the 40th minute when he blasted in a shot from just outside the 18-yard box from the right side.

Junior Luke Heinrichs and Crew Kudrna combined to handle the goalkeeping chores for the Tigers, who have relied heavily on their defense in recent games.

The Tigers return to league play on Wednesday.
