Nearly 900 riders are expected to be pedaling through Northern Nevada this Sunday for the Edible Pedal 100.

This event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise, is comprised of three different bike rides: a 10-mile recreational course for families through Washoe, a 50-mile course through Carson City and Genoa and a 100-mile course for the serious rider that goes through Kingbury Grade from Carson City to Lake Tahoe.

“The course goes through Northern Nevada and showcases the best of Northern Nevada through Carson City and Lake Tahoe,” said Mark Kattelman, ride director of Edible Pedal. “Riders will get to see all of the beauty of the area with deserts, forest and beautiful farmland.”

The rides start and end at Bowers Mansion. Check-in for the 100-mile ride is at 5:30 a.m., the 50-mile ride is at 7:30, and the 10-mile ride is at 10. Early registration is closed, but there are still some tickets left, to register, contact info@ediblepedal100.com.

With so many riders on the road, plus repaving going on through Washoe Valley, traffic is expected to be heavy Saturday on I-580. Southbound I-580 will be reduced to a single lane all weekend and the riders will be on the road.

Travelers will also need to be aware of road closures in Lake Tahoe for the Ironman Lake Tahoe Triathlon this weekend. Drivers will be sharing the road with nearly 2,500 athletes Sunday, Sept. 20.

From 5 to 10 a.m., Highway 28 eastbound and westbound from Fox Street to Highway 267 in Kings Beach will be closed. There will be a detour up Fox Street and across Speckled Avenue to reach 267. From there, motorists can either go northbound toward Truckee or southbound to merge onto Highway 28 toward Tahoe City.

From 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Highway 89 northbound from Fairway Drive in Tahoe City to the intersection of Squaw Valley Road and Highway 89 will be closed. To get to either Squaw or Truckee from the North Shore, drivers are advised to take Highway 267 north.

From 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Highway 267 southbound from Highlands View Road near Northstar to Commonwealth Drive in Kings Beach will be closed. Drivers are advised to take Highway 89 south to access Lake Tahoe basin communities such as Kings Beach.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., West River Street eastbound from Highway 89 to McIver Crossing will be closed. Vehicle traffic won’t be able to cross the railroad tracks at Bridge Street, Donner Pass Road eastbound will be closed, Glenshire Drive will be closed and Old Brockway Road will be closed. Traffic is advised to use Hirschdale Road to enter Glenshire and use Palisades Drive to enter and exit that neighborhood.

Continuing down West River, eastbound travel from McIver Crossing to Bridge Street will be closed between 9 and 11:30 a.m.
