The historic mountain mining town of Virginia City is continuing its reputation for quirky events with the inaugural Undie Run Relay as part of this year’s World Championship Outhouse Races on Oct. 3 and 4.
Teams of three will compete in a relay race while sporting their best undergarments in hopes of winning the ultimate bragging rights.
Racing against three other teams down the town’s main drag, C Street, each participant will run the length of the course, slam a 25-ounce beer, and complete an obstacle before tagging the next team member with the toilet paper “baton.” With a two-race guarantee and extra points for running in underwear, winning teams in each heat advance. Winning teams receive prizes with grand prizes going to the top three teams.
The inaugural Undie Run Relay takes place as part of the World Championship Outhouse Races, which pits teams of costumed outhouse racers against each other as they sprint down the street with outhouses, one rider taking the throne as the other two race to the toilet paper finish line.
The Parade of Outhouses begins at noon Saturday, Oct. 3, with both Undie and Outhouse races immediately following. Undie Run Relay winners will be announced Saturday following the races. Outhouse racing continues at noon Sunday, Oct. 4, and concludes with the crowning of the champion outhouse racing team.
Undie Run Relay teams must consist of three people with all participants over the age of 21. Online team registration is open until Oct. 2.
The World Championship Outhouse Races is sponsored by Dolan Auto Group, Mustang Ranch Steakhouse, Coors Light, and Camelot Party Rentals. For more information, go to www.visitvirginiacitynv.com, or call the Virginia City Tourism Commission at 775-847-7500.
