An informal gathering of railroad photographers, artists, writers, historians and preservationists is planned from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Performance Hall of Carson City’s Brewery Arts Center.
Silver Rail, in the tradition of Winterail, features a day of multimedia presentations of documentary and creative railroad photography and fellowship.
Presenters include Wayne Monger, author and former Union Pacific news editor for CTC Board Magazine. Monger is also involved in railroad preservation work on both the Western Pacific and Milwaukee Road railroads.
Author Jeff Moore will debut images from his new book, to be published this fall, about the McCloud River Railroad.
Richard and Wanda Canton, authors of “Railroad in the Sky,” will give updates on the continuing efforts to preserve the Bodie Railway & Lumber Company.
Other presenters include: Evan Werkema, Matt Vurek, Neil Carlson and John Walker. Professor Bruce Blackadar of UNR will take attendees back a decade to the beginning of construction on the Reno (train) Trench. Todd Moore will talk about the construction of the replica V&T Lyon locomotive, and there will be short film clips from Nathan Holmes, a retired WP/UP engineer and founder of the Portola Railroad Museum.
The event will also feature Winterail programs from the past — John Maky’s SP Mina Branch, The WP’s Final Decade, and Mel Patrick’s tribute to Chicago Union Station.
A no host bar and food will be available for sale. Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $14 for Brewery Arts Center and Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum members.
