The Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau is celebrating a multi-page article in Bike Magazine’s May edition extolling the virtues not only of mountain biking in the capital but showcasing Carson as a destination.
“It really taps into the success of the entire rebranding effort,” said Joel Dunn executive director of the CCCVB.
He credited Epic Rides, which will descend on western Nevada in June, for drawing the attention not only of Bike Magazine but, he said, four biking magazines that have come up to ride western Nevada trails.
“It’s talking about Carson City as a destination for mountain biking,” he said. “It’s outstanding.”
The article by Kurt Gensheimer with photos by former Nevada Appeal photographer Rick Gunn talks not only about the extensive trails that have developed around Carson but the city itself.
“Although Carson City is a 20 minute drive from the glitz of Lake Tahoe, the rough-and-ready vibe of Carson feels like stepping through a time portal,” the article says, “this frontier attitude is a matter of local pride that will never be relinquished.”
Talking about biking the area, it says the story “isn’t so much what the area already offers but what it is destined to become.”
“The only thing more impressive than the number of trails built here over the past 10 years is the number of new legal trails that will exist in the next 10 years,” it says.
That, according to the article, is because of the cooperation between not only nonprofits like Muscle Powered and the Carson Valley Trails Association but federal and local officials as well as the visitors bureau.
“Unlike some cities in which illegal trails are quickly shut down and tickets issued, Carson City saw the potential the trails had for recreation and tourism and worked with the builders to legalize them,” the story says.
“What’s most important it showcases the community effort that developed our trail system,” said Dunn. “It’s a great article.”
