150 years ago

An immense trout. A person of Chinese descent came into town yesterday with the largest specimen of a Lake Tahoe trout we have ever seen. It weighs a little more than 38 pounds and was purchased by Mr. James Levy of the Sazarac saloon, were it can be seen by the curious in piscatorial wonders. Jack Pierce, who is an old shellback, swears it is a young whale.

130 years ago

Today a general boycott begins, not upon citizens, as certain as parties would have it appear, but upon the Chinese. The boycott will be absolute and extend as far as the power of the League lies, to every person from China in this county. No boycott has been ordered against any citizen of Carson; it is directed solely against the Chinese.

100 years ago

An enjoyable evening. The dance at the Armory hall last night given by Mesdames Thatcher and Maclean to their many friends was one of the most pleasant affairs ever held in Carson and proved an evening of genuine employment to the many of those attending. The music, of matchless quality, was provided by the Carson City band.

The 1946 fish planting schedule for Ormsby County was released today by the Nevada State Fish and Game Commission. During the first allotment for the June quote, there will be 50,000 rainbow and cutthroat fish planted in the rearing pond and kept there until they get big enough for planting.

50 years ago

State Senator Carl Dodge, R-Churchill, filed today to run for his third full term in the upper house of Nevada’s Legislature. Dodge, a retired rancher and contractor, was first appointed in 1958 to fill an unexpired term held by Ralph Lattin, who resigned.

A lofty environmental dream of converting sewage to drinkable water — effluent pure enough to be discharged into pristine Lake Tahoe — has died under 18 unsuccessful years of costly experimentation.
