The Carson City Board of Supervisors will tackle the fiscal year 2017 budget on Thursday.
The goal is to review the budget in an estimated three-hour session and provide direction to staff, who will return with a final budget at the board’s May 19 meeting.
City staff will present department presentations made earlier in the week at the budget open house as well as comments from the public collected there.
The hour-and-a-half budget open house is Monday, in two separate sessions at noon and 5:30 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center.
The 2017 budget includes 23 governmental funds with estimated expenditure of $92,670,063 and 10 proprietary funds with expenditures of $44,001,571.
For 2017, property taxes are projected to rise 1 percent due to the property tax cap of 0.2 percent on both residential and commercial property.
General fund revenues are expected to go up 1.1 percent to $69.8 million while expenditures from the fund are projected to drop 0.5 percent.
The board also will convene as the Redevelopment Authority to review its 2017 tentative budget.
The supervisors also will decide whether to approve a contract not to exceed $75,000 to continue working with Edmond Miller, attorney at law, on the Empire Ranch Golf Course LLC bankruptcy case, which is still pending.
The latest item in the Lompa Ranch development will be heard.
Supervisors will decide after a second reading whether to approve zoning changes to the property which would allow single-family, multifamily duplex and apartments as well as neighborhood business and general commercial.
The supervisors will also consider a contract with Road & Highway Builders LLC for up to 200,000 cubic yards, at $2 per cubic yard, of excavation material from the freeway project to the landfill.
The material will be used as cover material at the landfill to meet permit requirements.
The Board of Supervisors meeting is 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room at the Community Center.
