No Eastern news. We were disappointed last evening in not receiving any dispatches from the East. Upon inquiry we learned that no dispatches have been received in San Francisco, and as a consequence, none could be received here due to a down wire east of Salt Lake City. We are happy to report they are back up today.

130 years ago

Jack Doane of the Appeal office put in a very light day’s work at the office yesterday. Cause: a 10-pound boy in the family.

100 years ago

Motor service shortly. The motor service between Carson and Reno will be resumed shortly. The car was brought to the shops today for the purpose of repairing, painting and otherwise putting it in order for the summer passenger traffic.

70 years ago

The Rambler by Wes Davis. Yesterday was the second anniversary of Mr. And Mrs. Rambler’s ownership of the Appeal, and we will observe it by thanking sincerely all those who have put up with so much from us, particularly in hit-and-miss delivery of the paper, and in long waits for printing. As we enter the third year, we hope these conditions can be somewhat improved, although we keep our fingers crossed.

Justice Milton Badt, the grand old man of the Nevada Supreme Court, has died. The 81-year-old jurist served on the state’s highest court since 1947.

30 years ago

Proposals by telephone companies to offer discount rates to the elderly or poor were declared legal Monday by the Public Service Commission.
