GENOA — Lakoda Smokey shot a 2-over-par 74 to lead Carson High to a third-place finish at Wednesday’s Sierra League tournament at Genoa Lakes.
Galena won the event with a 356 thanks to co-medalist Connor Motherway (67). Bishop Manouge, led by co-medalist Ollie Osborne, was second at 380. Carson followed at 430, Douglas was fourth at 446 and Damonte Ranch was fifth at 454. Wooster was last at 491.
Bebop Martinez shot a 78, Matt McCarthy 82, Taylor Saarem 92 and Ethan Lepire 102.
Ty Evans had a nonscoring 103.
“Two words describe our play today — outstanding improvement,” coach Wade Greenlee said. “The boys have been working really hard in practice and it showed today in their play. We cut 79 strokes off our score from the tournament at Arrowcreek. We accomplished our goal of beating Douglas and moving into third place. Genoa is an easier course (than Arrowcreek), but there is still plenty of trouble, and everybody focused on managing the course.
“Lakoda and Bebop played the way our top two should play. Taylor had one bad hole or he would have joined Matt in the 80s where I anticipate them to be the rest of the season.”
Carson returns to action next Thursday at Wolf Run.
