Almost a serious fire. While going on his rounds about 3 1/2 o’clock yesterday morning, Officer Bethards discovered an unusual light from Goodman’s cigar store on Carson street, and, in forcing the door, found a fire kindled under the counter. He extinguished it before any serious damage could be done.

The Chinese in this vicinity who have vegetable ranches leased refuse to give up their leases. M. Cohn, however, has been scouring Carson Valley and has found several farmers who are willing to take the Chinese leases off their hands at what they paid for them.

Superintendent P. Dudley of the Capitol Building has had a force of men at work cleaning out the water reservoir. It was entirely drained and swept and the springs were cleaned of rubbish and shrubbery. The pipes leaving from the reservoir were found to be full of holes, with small water troughs running from them to convenient places for the sheep to drink. Wherever it was necessary the sheep men took a shot at the pipe to put a hole in, placed a trough in, and led the water to a convenient place for drinking purposes.

Some 2,067 persons have visited the Nevada State Museum since the beginning of the year thanks to the general relaxation of gas rationing. Only 900 persons visited the museum during the same period in 1945. Visitors are coming from far away places such as Arabia, Caracas, Alaska and Panama, plus just about every state in the union.
