RENO — Archie Bradley pitched six innings of shutout baseball, and Tuffy Gosewisch and Jack Reinheimer each homered to lead the Reno Aces to an easy 8-0 win over El Paso Thursday before an Opening Night crowd of 6,711 at Greater Nevada Field.
Bradley allowed just two hits in his stint. Dominic Leone allowed three hits in two innings and Cody Hall pitched a scoreless ninth. The trio combined for nine strikeouts and three walks. Bradley threw 91 pitches.
Reno scored one in the first and four in the second to grab a commanding 5-0 lead after two.
In the first, Reinheimer singled, advanced to second on an infield out, to third on a single by Pete O’Brien and scored on a wild pitch.
After El Paso stranded runners at second and third in the second, Reno scored four times in the bottom of the inning.
After one out, Carlos Rivero singled and moved to second on a single by Gosewisch. Bradley was safe at first when EP misplayed his sacrifice bunt, loading the bases. Evan Mazilli walked to force in a run, Reinheimer singled in two runs and Mike Freeman capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.
The score remained 5-0 until the sixth when Reno scored three more runs.
Gosewisch led off the inning with a solo homer. With one out, Mazilli walked and Reinheimer followed with a two-run homer.
El Paso left a runner in scoring position in the seventh and again in the ninth.
The series resumes tonight at 6:35 with the first fireworks show following the game. The teams also play at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday.
