William McGregor Cattell died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 27, 2016, at Carson Tahoe Hospital due to complications of lymphoma. Born on June 19, 1936, in Fresno, California, Willie moved with his family to San Diego six months later. He joined the Army and at age 19 became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the closing days of the Korean War. His professional life was with Pacific Bell, and began at age 18 with mail delivery in Southern California and ended after 34 years as an outside engineer in Northern Nevada. His family was his primary focus, whether it was coaching Little League, cheering from the sideline, finish line or auditorium seat. He instilled a love of the outdoors in all and inspired many with his positive enthusiasm. The journey was important. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pat, children Will, Chris and Elizabeth, brother Charles, sister Jean, grandchildren Christian, Patrick, Robbie, Sam, Michael, Daniel, Alana, James, Nicole and Jenna, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of His Life will be held April 16 at 3 pm at the Town Hall in Genoa, Nevada. In his name, smile at a stranger and help a friend.
