Brandon Basa won four straight matches, three by pin, to win the 113-pound weight class at the Reno Worlds at the Reno Event Center over the weekend.
Basa was representing the Carson Bulldogs’ program along with Sheldon Miller, Nathan Mersino and John Rowe.
Basa won via a third-round pin of Justan Fasana, and followed that up with a first-round pin of Aerreon Castanada of Inderkum. In the semis, Basa beat Pierce Mederios, 8-1, and the CHS star pinned Ethan Rotondo of Western Washington for the championship.
Miller was forced to wrestle seven times en route to his fifth-place finish.
He was pinned by Pablo Miller in his opening match, but battled back to win six straight matches, four by pin, one by decision and one by injury default. He won fifth place when Pablo Miller suffered an injury and was unable to wrestle. His most impressive win was a 21-second pin of Daniel Rodriguez.
Mersino went 3-2 at 138 pounds. He won his first two matches, and then lost by pin to Danny Abbate in the third round. Mersino beat Jeronimo Cardosa of Hanford, 9-3. He lost to Taylor Heath, 4-1, and was eliminated.
Rowe went 0-2 in the event.

at Cabela’s
Cabela’s will be hosting fishing guides and providing fishing tips for area waters as the fishing season gets under way during Cabela’s Fishing Classic, April 16-17, at the Reno store.
Truckee fishing guide Marc Christophel will be outside in front of the store both days with his boat to talk about and show how he rigs his lines for Kokanee fishing at Donner, Boca and Stampede at 1 p.m. Additionally, Cabela’s outfitters will talk about home water opportunities at noon and offer some tips and tactics on new fishing gear at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sonar tips on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the sonar bar in the marine department and a reading water for trout will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the fishing department are also on tap during the weekend event.
Cabela’s is also offering a 20 percent discount on new reels with any used working reel brought into the store Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 17. Customers may bring in any working reel to the reel bar in fishing for a trade-in and get the discount on any new reel, with the old working reels to be donated to the American Sportfishing Association for their youth fishing programs.

The Friday skins game at Dayton Valley has returned. Tee Times are from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday.

Carson Valley hosts
women’s tournament
The Lost in Space Invitational is scheduled for June 7 at Carson Valley Golf Club.
The two-woman best ball event is $75 per player. The cost includes golf, cart, lunch, breakfast, raffle and silent auction. and there’s going to be prizes for best alien costume, best decorated shuttle, closest to the hole, longest drive and straightest drive.

Signups for Carson NFL Flag Football being taken
The Carson City NFL Flag Football League affiliated with NFL Flag Football is now taking registration for its spring season. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday nights from April 25 through May 25 at Fremont Elementary School. Boys and girls ages 5 to 13 are eligible. There will be divisions for 5-7 ($75), 8-10 ($85) and 11-13 ($85).
The league will be limited to the first 48 players who register in each division.
