Miles Construction’s work as contractor for the historic Farmer’s Bank Building in downtown Minden was recognized as Bently Enterprises received two awards celebrating the work done converting the building to the company’s headquarters office.

Bently Enterprises was awarded the USGBC Nevada Chapter 2015 LEED Project of the Year award and the AIA Nevada 2015 Merit Award in the Built Category, with J.P. Copoulos as the Architect of Record and Nichols Booth as the Design Architect for the project.

“The Bently Enterprises team deserves all the recognition they have received for this project,” Cary Richardson, vice president of business operations at Miles Construction, said. “Our team at Miles was honored to work on this signature project which follows our focus on sustainable construction and repurposing of existing facilities. It was a solid collaboration with the Bently team in furthering their corporate mission and community-focused initiatives.”

Miles integrated sustainable construction techniques within the existing structure to eliminate the environmental impact associated with demolishing an existing building and replacing it with new construction. The project incorporated an extensive energy and daylighting modeling strategy to make informed decisions regarding system and assembly selections to optimize energy performance. The energy systems used were direct and indirect evaporative cooling, building mass utilization, natural ventilation, natural light with skylights, ground source heat pump technology, radiant cooling and heating and chilling beams. The cooperation of the town of Minden and Douglas County was a key component of this project coming to fruition.

“Sustainable building and design is not an elective approach, it is simply the way things must be done to ensure our world has a future,” Christopher Bently, Bently Enterprises owner and CEO, said. “Miles understands that and is a tremendous partner in helping meet our principles.”
