Business briefly: Nevada Rural Housing Authority receives awards

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority was recently recognized by the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies during its 2016 Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas. NRHA received excellence awards in two categories: The Single-Family Excellence category in recognition of the Home at Last Program, and the Multifamily Excellence category in recognition of the Winnemucca Senior Campus project.

The Home at Last program allows low-to-moderate-income families to experience home ownership often for the first time. Last year it expanded the Down Payment Assistance grant program and revamped the Mortgage Tax Credit program.

The Winnemucca Senior Campus project began in 2010 with the goal to alleviate a housing shortage in Winnemucca.

Nonprofit shelter receives donation

Yerington’s nonprofit YACC cat shelter received a $8,960 donation from the Community Advised Fund of the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.

YACC is a resource center for owners of small domestic pets in Lyon County. The shelter is sponsoring low-cost vaccination clinics for dogs and cats in June and October. Vendors are invited to set up booths at the YACC Cat Shelter, 125 Highway 339, Yerington. The shelter is also rolling out a pet food pantry — to be stocked using grant funds and donations — this fall.
