Community spotlight: Tie for title at Thunder Canyon

Thunder Canyon celebrated its season-opening event with a two-way tie for the men’s club tournament.

The team of William Pereda, Emmanuel Romero, Rob Jennings-Teats and Jhem Mondragon shot a net 129 to tie Jeff Gusso, Sean and Steve Sear and Chuck Griffin. The team of Gerald Cornejo, Narin Prachunbarn, Max Gundlach and Todd Harmon placed third at 134 and Tom Brennan, Burt Clements, Bruce Miller and Eric Ottenheimer were fourth at 135.

• The women’s club tournament also ended in a two-way tie for the top spot.

Claudia Goodnight, Donna Schellin and Pat Hiatt combined for a 60 as did the team of Chryl Lukens, Virginia Bonar, Shelly Kinerson and Cheryl Burke.

Lynn Greenman, Susan Hood, Patti Davin and Cindy Hannah were third with a 61.

Campbell triumphs at

Dayton tourney

Janice Campbell took first in low gross in Flight 1 at the recent Dayton Valley Women’s Golf Club event. The format was blind bogey/blind draw.

Laura Hunt, Jeanne Dotson and Mary Harrison were low gross winners in the other three flights.

Patty Cooke, Carli Vandervort, Diann Gardner and Chris Bunnell took low net honors. Second low net honors went to Joanne Bower, Dianne Murray and Suzanne Mohr.

•Campbell won low gross on April 12 with an 82, nine shots better than Cooke, who tied for low net (70) in Flight 1 with Jona Kremp. Cathy Kulm won low gross in Flight 2 with a 103, while Mary Epperson was the low net winner with a 78. MV Gentry won low gross in the third flight with a 103 and Dotson won low net with a 70. Marry Harrison won low gross in Flight 4 with a 118 and Bunnell won low net with a 76.

Silver Oak starts

new program

Silver Oak Golf Club has announced the start of Sunset Walkers. The program is for golfers who want to walk. The cost is $15 and the fee is good for tee times from 5 p.m. on daily.

Bourgeois wins at

Carson Valley

Joe Bourgeois shot a net 70 to win Flight A at Carson Valley Men’s Club recent tournament. Dan Essary was second via tiebreaker over Marc Menezes. Both shot 73s.

Joe Morrison won via tiebreaker over Roger Hala for the Flight B title. Both shots 71s. Jack Zippwald won Flight C with a 66, three shots better than Jim Tavernier.

Bourgeois and Dennis Patterson won closest to the hole.

Yokota wins at

Empire Ranch

Skip Yokota shot 67 to win Flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event. Bill Milligan and Steve Scarfe also shot 67s,

Ray McPartlin won Flight B with a 67, one shot better than Bill Allen and two ahead of Mala Chizek. Mel Ness won Flight C with a 66, two shots ahead of Carl Slate and three in front of Dennis Small. Norm Scoggin won Flight D with a 67, a shot better than Tom Harlow and Maurice Dias.

Bill Bowers, Gene Gaston, Nick Paul and Bill Langs won closest to the hole.
