Gardnerville, Nev. — A suspect in a reported kidnapping in the Gardnerville Ranchos was taken into custody on Blue Lakes Road in Alpine County on Wednesday.

Deputies responded to the 800 block of Short Court at 10:45 a.m. after receiving a domestic battery report. The woman fled to a friend’s home, and Joshua Albericci followed.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, an armed Albericci, 35, allegedly forced the woman into a Chevrolet Tahoe and drove west out of the Ranchos.

A broadcast went out to surrounding law enforcement agencies as sheriff’s personnel sought the Tahoe and its occupants.

At 12:35 p.m. Alpine County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the Tahoe at the second gate of Blue Lakes Road. The woman was found near the vehicle safe and unharmed.

Albericci was taken into custody and booked into El Dorado County Jail on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, possession of an assault weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, destruction or concealment of evidence, obstructing or resisting arrest. Albericci’s bail has been set at $300,000. Douglas County is seeking Albericci’s extradition.

Because Albericci might have headed for one of two Carson Valley schools, the schools kept students inside.

“We placed Meneley Elementary and Douglas High School on STAY PUT,” said Douglas County School Superintendent Teri White. “That means that we proceed normally, but do everything indoors. Douglas High’s STAY PUT was lifted just prior to lunch, but we kept Meneley in STAY PUT through lunch. There was never a threat to the schools, it was precautionary on our part.”
