Edrie Cross Schwake, 97, of Carson Valley, Nevada, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2016, in Gardnerville.
A third generation Nevada native, she was born on April 2, 1919, to Thurman W. and Helena Schneider Cross. She grew up in arson City, graduated from Carson High School and Iowa State University.
Miss Cross was a nutritionist working with nursery schools and a volunteer for the Red Cross in San Francisco, California, during WWII. She later taught home economics in Sparks, Nevada.
She married Melvin H. Schwake on January 16, 1947 in Virginia City, Nevada. He was a general engineering contractor and rancher in Nevada and California. Together they lived and worked in Carson Valley for 50 years until his death in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Thruman G. Cross.
She is survived by their son Melvin H. Schwake Jr. of Carson Valley; daughter Sigrid (David) Pieretti of Granite Bay, California; grand daughters, Helena (Mathew) Letunic and Carlee Parks; great-grandchildren Carson Parks and Brooke Letunic. Also nieces and nephews in Nevada, California, Georgia, Virginia and their families.
Interment will be at the Mottsville Cemetery Friday, August 5, 2016 at 9:45 am with a memorial service to follow at the Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 am.
