Carson City Airport receives $2.4 million grant

The Carson City Airport will receive more than $2.4 million from a U.S. Department of Transportation grant.

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Friday announced a total of $11.9 million in grants to Nevada airports for a variety of projects.

The Carson City Airport grant totals $2,454,684 to pay for rehabilitation of an airport apron pavement.

“Transportation is key to Nevada’s thriving tourism and business industries and these funds will help us build on that success,” said Reid. “I’ve spent my career working to upgrade and expand Nevada’s airports because they are truly a driver of our state’s economic engine.”

McCarran International Airport receives the largest of the grants at $4.8 million, also for apron reconstruction. After that Ely’s Yellend Field will get $2.8 million. Carson City’s grant is the third largest on the list.

In addition, Fallon Municipal Airport will get $588,750 to rehabilitated 4,207 feet of runway.

Henderson’s and Mesquite’s airports also will receive funding.
