Man booked on felony eluding, assault on an officer

A 39-year-old Fernley man was arrested Tuesday after a chase that ended when deputies struck the suspect’s car with their patrol vehicles.

At around 10:45 p.m., deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle with no headlights traveling above the speed limit on the 400 block of Pilot Road in Fernley. The vehicle failed to stop, but deputies called off the pursuit for public safety reasons, a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office press release said.

About a half-hour later, Nevada Highway Patrol notified the sheriff’s office of an erratic driver near Taco Bell in Fernley. Deputies located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield, and deputies pursued it and intentionally struck the suspect’s vehicle with their patrol vehicles to end the chase, the press release said.

Once the vehicle was stopped, the occupant, later identified as Jeremy Random, brandished a weapon, then drove his vehicle at two Lyon County deputies who then fired at the suspect, striking Random.

Random was treated and released from the hospital and booked at the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of felony eluding and assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

Bail was set at $70,000.
