Peggy Oynedia Hoey

Peggy Oynedia Hoey, 72, passed away the morning of August 1st, 2016. Peggy was born on August 25th, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was married to Thomas Earl Hoey Sr. on October 29th, 1963, and they had two sons, Terry Michael Hoey and Thomas Earl Hoey Jr. She is survived by her husband, her two sons, her sister Gerry Gentry, her daughter-in-law’s Insuk and Darcy, and grandchildren Frank, Amanda, Sage, Thomas the 3rd, and Ashlynn.

Peggy and Tom retired to the Fallon area in January of 1983. Peggy was very active in Scouting for over 17 years, providing support to the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers. She was designated as the first Paraprofessional for the newly formed Pony Express District, which covered Fallon, Fernley, Austin, Yerington, Round Mountain, Hawthorn, and Lovelock.

Although never a member of Churchill County Search and Rescue, she was active for over 20 years as the Callout Lady, also assisting with the annual fundraisers, and helping out where ever she could.

Peggy was always ready to help out anyone in need, whether it was via transportation, babysitting, grocery shopping, and in so many other different ways. Peggy knew and was friends with so many people in the local area. A five minute trip to the store usually took much longer, as she had to stop and say “Hi” to an acquaintance, or a friend saw her and had to come over to talk.

In honoring Peggy’s wishes, she will be cremated, and there will be no funeral, viewing, or celebration of life.
