Drusilla “Drucy” J Service, 86, of Chester, VA, went home to be with her Lord peacefully surrounded by family July 31st, 2016. Born on March 14, 1930 in Bolckow, MO, Drusilla spent her life in California, Nevada and Virginia. A

beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she had an unwavering and steadfast devotion to her family and to the Lord. Drusilla’s belief in goodness, her sense of optimism, and her belief that everything would be all right was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved life, was positive, generous, caring and always made sure your coffee cup was full. She adored children and enjoyed her years as a fifth grade teacher at Dayton Middle School and Sutro Elementary School in Dayton, NV where she was awarded Nevada D.A.R.E. Educator of the Year and Teacher of the Year. She later was director of the Southern Calvary Baptist Preschool. She was loved by all of her students. A talented musician, she provided worship music on the piano and organ for many years at Calvary Baptist Church in Dayton, NV. After retirement Drusilla moved to Chester, Virginia to be closer to family. There she enjoyed being a member of the Joy Singers of the Chester United Methodist Church, going to lunch with the Golden Girls, playing cards with her friends and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives Melvin and Rebecca Whetstine Jr., Michael and Deanna Whetstine and Mark and Connie Whetstine, her siblings Louise Alexander, Gerald Fuller and Garry Schmitt and wife Bobbie, and

loving sister-in-law Carol Schmitt and brother-in-law Hugh Wilkison. She was so proud of her grandchildren, Melvin III, Brigette, Breezy, and Zachary Whetstine; Michael and Jonathan Caleb Whetstine, Ashley Grimm, Audrey Whetstine Maisey, Cara Lowery, and Cassidy Whetstine and her great grandchildren, Will, Melody, Danell, Dylan, and Brayden Whetstine; Derek Thompson, Dustin Logue, Jonathan, Camille, and Alice Grimm; Hannah, Jude, and Arielle Harder; and Drusilla Maisey, as well as many special nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Drusilla was preceded in death by her parents, Buster Schmitt and Mearl Mendenhall, siblings Max Schmitt and Delpha Wilkison, and her

great grandson Titus Harder.

During her final weeks of life, Drusilla was grateful for the excellent care, continued prayers and support of her family, Bon Secours Hospice, her special friends Pam McGhee and Kim Menesini, Pastor Sylvia Meadows and friends at Chester United Methodist Church and Chester Village, and Mohamed Nabieu and the children of the Child Rescue Centre in Sierra Leone, Africa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Chester United Methodist Church August 25, 2016, at 11 am.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chester United Methodist Church, 12132 Percival Street, Chester, VA 23831 to support the children’s backpack ministry, because Drusilla wanted no child to ever be hungry.
