One man may be rich with a hundred dollars, while another in the possession of millions, may think himself poor and if the necessities of life are enjoyed by each, it is evident that the man who is best satisfied with his possessions is the richest.”

Carson turns out en masse to hear the Black Eagle: General Logan arrived in the city last evening at 7 o’clock, having been driven down the Clear Creek grade by Senator Stewart. As the Senator and Mrs. Locate made their appearance the bells of the city began ringing and crowds gathered on the sidewalks to cheer the general.

100 years ago

A holdup occurred in Gardnerville yesterday afternoon, but no particulars are available as to the name of the bandit or the person who was relieved of some of his belongings. Constable Ramsay of Gardnerville described the holdup as a man about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches and weighed about 180 pounds.

70 years ago

Following an illness of several months, death came last night to Judge Edward A. Ducker, Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court and one of the state’s most eminent citizens. Ducker came to Nevada at 17 to be a cowboy and did that for a few years before becoming an attorney.

50 years ago

Equipped with new supersonic jets, about 500 Nevada Air National Guardsmen arrived here (Boise, Idaho) this weekend for annual summer training. The Nevada Guard is in the process of converting from RB 57 photo reconnaissance jets to camera-equipped RF 101 Voodoos.

A proposed Public Service Commission rule on telecommunications industry deregulation was criticized today by Nevada Bell on grounds the company would be forced to give valuable information to competitors.
