Four injured after head-on crash Saturday night

Four Dayton residents, including two children, were hospitalized following a head-on crash Saturday night.

At 11:48 p.m. Nevada Highway Patrol was dispatched to an injury accident at Flint Drive and Highway 50, west of the V&T train track overpass.

A 53-year-old Dayton man was allegedly driving his Mazda pickup the wrong way in the eastbound lane when he hit a silver Saturn. The driver of the second vehicle, a 25-year-old Dayton woman tried to swerve to avoid a collision with the pickup. Officials said that information on scene indicated that the Saturn steered right to avoid the collision and the left end of the pickup struck the left side of the Saturn. There were two children in the Saturn.

Both drivers were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for serious but not life-threatening injuries. The children also were taken to Renown but were treated and released with minor injuries.

Both eastbound travel lanes were closed for several hours as troopers investigated and cleaned up the roadway. One lane was opened at 1:30 a.m. and both lanes opened by 5 a.m.
