Community spotlight: Benefit golf tourney set for Eagle Valley

The Alyce McCracken Memorial Scramble for Scholarships golf tournament is scheduled for Sept. 10 at Eagle Valley at 8 a.m.

The cost is $85 which includes lunch and prizes.

Toyota Scions from the Campagni Auto Group will be awarded for aces at Nos. 8 and 12, $10,000 is the prize for an ace on No. 17, and an Applie iPad is the prize for an ace on No. 4.

The tournament is being put on by the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors.

Proceeds will be shared among high schools in Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Churchill counties.

Junior tennis event

at Tahoe Donner

The 8th annual Tahoe Donner Fall Junior Open is set for Sept. 10-11 at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Complex.

Entry deadline is Sept. 4, and match times will be available on Sept. 6. This is a USTA sanctioned event,

Sparring exhibition

set for tonight

Carson City Boxing Club’s Sparring Expedition is set for today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bob McFadden Pavilion across from Bella Fiore Wine.

The event is presented by Wednesday Night’s Farmers Market.


Rey wins event

at Carson Valley

Jesus Rey shot a net 66 to win Flight A at the recent Carson Valley Golf Club event.

Rey and Jeff Schreiber both shot 66s, but Rey won a tiebreaker. Roger Hala was third with a 70.

Phil Macken won Flight B with a 67 followed by Charles Poe and Gary Schreiber, both with 68s. Larry Lockwood won Flight C with a 64, four shots clear of John Pearson and 10 ahead of Brent Holderman.

• Carson Valley is hosting two clinics every Tuesday. The first is for couples at 4:15 p.m. The cost is $20 per couple for the 50-minute class, and at 5:15 there’s a clinic for women. The cost is $10 for the 50-minute session.

Hillman third in mountain bike event

Douglas High senior Danner Hillman placed third in the inaugural Nevada Interscholastic Cycling League’s North Tahoe Challenge varsity boys mountain bike race Sunday in Tahoe City.

Hillman finished the 19.5-mile race at North Tahoe High School in a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 25 seconds. Austin Smith, a Galena High School senior, won the race in 1:12:29.13 and North Tahoe High sophomore Cooper Anderson placed second in 12:12:51.

Alta Alpina’s Justin Kinser also placed fourth in the freshman boys race in 51:53.

Sierra Lutheran High School’s William James-Chappell placed second in the three-lap JV boys race in 1:25:01.

Carson’s Mallory Otto took third-place in the two-lap JV girls race with a time of 1:06:02. Carson’s Taylor Jenkins placed third in the sophomore girls race in 1:26:41 and Tobin McRae placed second in the sophomore boys race in 53:52.
