The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.
SILVER DOLLAR: To all those involved, to all the organizations who participated — really to the entire community, for Friday’s annual Silver and Snowflakes Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, Thank You.
SILVER DOLLAR: Also to all those involved in putting on the Holiday Crawl to support the Holiday With a Hero program and supporting our local businesses as well. And to the downtown business who participated. It’ a win-win. We thank the law enforcement officers and firefighters who are taking their time to make Christmas special for less fortunate children.
SILVER DOLLAR: This is an early recognition of Pearl Harbor veterans as the 75th anniversary of that fateful day is Wednesday. Many paid the ultimate price on that day and while many Pearl Harbor veterans passed away, there are some who still remain with us. Yes, it’s self-promotion, but look for Wednesday’s issue of the Nevada Appeal which will be largely devoted to the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
SILVER DOLLAR: While it was a trying season that eventually led to the departure of Nevada football coach Brian Polian, we still have to recognize the Wolf Pack for its resounding 45-10 win over UNLV to reclaim the Fremont Cannon.
