Aug. 20, 1925 ~ Nov. 28, 2016

Hazel Ryland was born 20 August 1925 in Biggen Hill, Kent, England to Vere and Joan Krohn. She passed away on 28 November 2016 in Carson City, Nevada.

After serving in the British Army Artillery during WWII, she embarked on further adventures related to work and travel. She first came to the US in 1959 – becoming a Naturalized Citizen in 1967. Hazel was an accomplished chef, a master weaver – teaching and exhibiting extensively – and librarian. She also traveled extensively – never wanting to miss the next adventure. In fact, at 91, she still had a rather full travel and social dance card!

Hazel was preceded in death by her brother Ian Ronald Krohn.

She is survived by her niece – Joanna Refvem (Bill) of Florence, SC; nephew Matthew Krohn of Oakland, CA; sister-in-law Heather Krohn of Mt Airy, NC; great nephew Will Refvem of Cary, NC; great nieces Kate Templeton (Ahmaud) of Athens GA; Emma Refvem of Durham NC; Jill Refvem of Asheville, NC; and Charlotte Culler (Aaron) of Palo Alto CA.; and so many very special friends and “family”. Hazel gathered her vast other “family” throughout her life.

Hazel lived her life to the fullest – with a zest and flair that won her the admiration and true friendship of many wonderful people. She leaves a part of herself with each of those she touched deeply.

A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

We would like to give special thanks to the kind and compassionate nurses and doctors at Carson-Tahoe Hospital – especially Jen and Lisa.

And as Hazel was fond of toasting - “Here’s to us, none like us, and damned few of us…..”

Hazel requested any memorial contributions in her honor be directed to Carson City Library Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, or Honor Flight of Nevada.

Arrangements were in the trusted care of Autumn Funerals & Cremations.
