Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to speak at Bobby Dolan Baseball dinner

RENO – The Nevada baseball team will hold the 33rd annual Bobby Dolan Baseball Dinner on Thursday, Jan. 19,at the Reno Ballroom. The guest speaker is manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and 2016 National League Manager of the Year, Dave Roberts.

The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the VIP reception, followed by a 5:30 social hour and dinner at 6:30. Tickets are $150 per person and $1,500 for a table of 10. Additionally, a VIP package for a table of 10 including a private reception with Roberts is available for $2,500. Roberts, who was also named the Sporting News’ Manager of the Year, led the Dodgers to a 91-71 record and the team’s fourth consecutive National League West Division title in his first season leading the team in 2016. He’s the 10th skipper in Los Angeles Dodgers history and the fourth to play for and manage the team. Roberts is the first minority manager in club history.

A veteran of 10 major league seasons he debuted with the Cleveland Indians on Aug. 7, 1999. In addition to playing three seasons for the Indians he played for the Dodgers (2002-04), Red Sox (2004), Padres (2005-06) and Giants (2007-08).

In 832 career games he batted .266 with 243 stolen bases including a career-high 49 in 2006 playing for the Padres and also hit a career-best .293. In 302 games with the Dodgers he batted .262 with 118 stolen bases in 143 attempts.

The Dolan Baseball Dinner raises funds that support the Wolf Pack baseball team. The Pack will be led by second-year head coach T.J. Bruce this season. In Bruce’s first year Nevada went 37-24 and advanced to the Mountain West Championship game.

Winterfest opens at Greater Nevada Field

RENO — WinterFest — a festive holiday attraction featuring a Christmas tree lot, a Christmas train ride and appearances from Santa Claus in “Santa’s Village” — has officially opened at Greater Nevada Field.

The tree lot is open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week. Tree prices start at $48.50 and run up to $151. Sales tax is included in the price and prices vary depending on the tree size.

The Christmas train and Santa appearances run from 5 to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, noon to 3 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and 3 to 7 p.m. on Sundays. The train ride prices are a flat rate of $8 for children and adults, with a reduced price of $5 for daytime rides (Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays; 3 to 5 p.m. on Sundays).

The ice rink in front of Greater Nevada Field is now open. The cost is $8 for people 13 to 54, $6 for kids 3-12 and seniors 55 and up. The cost for skate rental is $4 per person.

Carson bowlers edge Wooster

Connor Bell and Jessica Mathiesen led the Senators to a 21-16 win last week at Grand Sierra Resort.

The Senators return to action Thursday against Sparks at Coconut Bowl.

Bell rolled a 229 en route to a 665 and Mathiesen rolled a high game of 225 and a 557 series.

Dustin Floyd had a 189 and 545 while Ray Ceragoli had a 174 and 516. Matt Hinton was next with a 169-491.
