Retired Lieutenant Colonel James N. Madsen, a long time Carson City resident passed away on December 10, 2016, at the age of 88.


Born April 28, 1928, in Fresno, CA, Jim graduated from Parlier High in 1946 and later earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. Colonel Madsen was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force, serving as an attack-bomber pilot in the Korean War and a helicopter rescue pilot in the Vietnam War.


Jim married Jacqueline (Jacie) Swanson in 1961 and they had five sons. After retiring from the Air Force, Jim moved his family to Carson City in 1977 and became a Real Estate Broker. He dedicated many years of service to the Knights of Columbus at St. Teresa Catholic Church.


Jim is survived by his beloved spouse of 55 years, Jacie and his five sons, Neil (Wendy) Reno NV, Eddy (Kristin) Minden, NV, Lee (Beth) Chicago, Dan (Tara) Temecula CA, Dean (Felicia) San Jose CA, and seven grandchildren (Loryn, Katelyn, Luke, Marco, Cade, Emma, Mady).


A private family Mass and burial will be held this week with a Celebration of Life event planned for early next year.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to your local Knights of Columbus council or VFW chapter.
