Lovelock shocked the Greenwave boys basketball team Thursday as the Mustangs galloped away with a 71-40 home win against the Northern 3A team.
The Greenwave offense started slowly to the game, scoring eight points in the first quarter. The Mustangs brought a stronger offense and closed the quarter with a 14-8 lead. The Mustangs continued to open their lead in the second quarter and ended the first half, 40-17.
In the second half, the Greenwave continued to fall behind Lovelock. The Mustangs took charge in the third quarter, 55-25. In the fourth, though, Fallon played evenly with the Mustangs by breaking Lovelock’s defense to score 15 points. The Mustangs’ offense stayed strong, though, and closed the game with a 29-point lead.
Brenden Larson led the Greenwave with 10 points; Christian Nemeth was behind him with 9 and Elijah Jackson tallied 8. Kapili Gleason scored 5 followed by John Cooley with 4, and Hayden Strasdin and Craig Smith each with 2. Nemeth, Jackson and Strasdin also grabbed seven rebounds each.
The Greenwave travelled to Fernley yesterday and have a home game against South Tahoe Friday at 7:30 p.m. Check the LVN website and Facebook for updates.
