Shooting box: A box made of boiler iron and furnished with a hole in it answering to the “bull’s eye” of a target, and about big enough to hold a common sized chicken, is the trap which Shimerhorn has for his customers to shoot at. It was to be seen at our office last evening. Some bullet holes in it show that it has been submitted to some pretty hard shooting.

The News Reporter agrees with the Carson Appeal on the lottery proposition. Thousands of dollars go out of this state every month for tickets in the drawings of the Louisiana lottery. This cannot be prevented. If people want to deal in lotteries they will do it law or no law.

At the invitation a couple of days ago of manager Ardery of the Virginia and Truckee and President Gillison of the Board of City Trustees visited and made a trip over the line of the new sewer system just nearing completion in the north and east end of the city. Before, all the sewage form the round house and north side emptied into the ditch, known as Tar Ditch, which joins the railroad ditch and empties into the Carson River. The health of the people is fully justified in expenditure of the money.

A propane gas explosion which burned an office building and two men Wednesday night caused about $15,000 in damage, Carson City Fire Chief Les Groth said today. He was told the office of Capital Propane could be salvaged.
