The Save Mart supermarket at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City will close on March 26. It will later reopen in the summer as FoodMaxx, according to a news release from Save Mart.

FoodMaxx, Save Mart Supermarket’s value grocery store chain, operates 52 stores throughout Northern California.

“FoodMaxx sill provide our shoppers extraordinary value every time they shop. That’s our focus, and we will work hard every day to deliver that to Nevada shoppers,” said Frank Capps, general manger of FoodMaxx.

The company also will open a store in on Prater Way in Sparks, replacing another current Save Mart.

According to the release, “the conversion of Save Mart stores to FoodMaxx is not a new strategy for the company. Over the past several years, there has been an increased demand for high quality products at the lowest possible prices. For that reason, FoodMaxx’s footprint has been growing.”

Employees will be offered positions in surrounding Save Mart stores or can apply for new positions with FoodMaxx. The other Save Mart stores operating in Carson City will continue their current operations.

The Carson City Save Mart that’s closing will have its prescriptions transferred to the Save Mart store at 3620 N. Carson St.
