A 50th wedding anniversary celebration was given for Carson City’s Harold and Ruth Holbrook on Jan. 9 at Fuji Park Pavilion. The event was a surprise to both Harold and Ruth, and they enjoyed the evening with food, friends and family.

The Holbrooks, who married Jan. 7, 1966, in Carson City, are thankful for the cards and gifts they received from friends and family. They would like to thank Benny Fillmore for his traditional blessing before the dinner. Fillmore, with the help of his wife, Laura, and son, Hunter, also sang a traditional round dance song, and young and old participated in the circle dance.

Dancing was also enjoyed to the music of a band led by the couple’s old friends, Mike Williams of Fallon, Mike Kane and Kenny Lange of Reno, and Faron Sam of Coleville, Calif.

Harold, a retired Carson City Parks Department employee, and Ruth, a retired Bureau of Indian Affairs employee with the U.S. Department of the Interior, also thank their sons, Alan and Mike; daughter, Tamara; granddaughter, Shannon; great-granddaughter, Calista, and other family members for their contributions in coordinating the celebration.

The Holbrooks have four children, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
