With the 100th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Nevada coming up on March 11, the Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will host a naval historian who will talk about the battleship, as well as the recently christening USNS Carson City.
Wayne Scarpaci will highlight the Navy League’s first meeting of the year on Wednesday at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino.
The evening opens with social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.
The program includes a report about the christening of the USNS Carson City, which took place Jan. 16 in Mobile, Ala.
Medallions commemorating the event will be on sale at the meeting. Silver medallions cost $50 each; bronze ones cost $10 each.

Founded in 1902, the Navy League of the United States has more than 50,000 members supporting the men and women of the sea services and their families.
The Carson City Council sponsors and supports Navy and Marine personnel at Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center near Bridgeport, Calif., and NAS Fallon, as well as the Carson High Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Command.
