Carson City Library to issue new cards

Patrons of the Carson City Library will be seeing new cards starting Wednesday that feature photos high-lighting all the city has to offer.

“Instead of just promoting the library with the cards, we’re promoting the community,” said Library Director Sena Loyd. “It gives us an opportunity to showcase how proud we are to live here.”

Current library card holders may exchange their cards for the new ones. The premium card displays a photo of a cyclist riding through poppies.

“We want to thank Joel Dunn of the Carson City Visitors Bureau for allowing us to use that image,” Loyd said.

The standard card is a photo of a student using the library, and the Internet only card is a drone shot of the Capitol.

“It’s interesting that we used drone technology to capture the photo because the library is focused on teaching new technology to its users,” Loyd said. “The library is not your traditional library. We offer digital equipment for checkout, e-books and audio books, reference books online, community and science, technology, engineering and mathematic programming.

“Last but not least, we offer workforce development certificates. Right now, that’s the manufacturing certificate, MT-1.”

Loyd said 35,000 people have Carson City Library cards, which adds up to more than half of the city’s population.

“To have more than 50 percent of the population using the library is huge,” she said. “It shows that we’re used. We’re well loved. We’re providing a service the community needs.”

The new cards, using photos by Nevada Photo Source, will tie the community and library together.

“The library is part of the community,” she said. “It’s a community resource, and it needs to embrace what the community is doing. These new cards are a good way to reflect that.”
