Was finding a new job part of your New Year’s Resolution? Did you know Carson City Health and Human Services offers a Workforce Development program to help jobseekers? The program has helped many Carson City residents find employment through workforce strategies workshops and job fairs, and can help you, too. If you’ve made finding or changing jobs part of your resolution this year, the Workforce Development Program can give you the skills you need to make that goal a reality.
Every Wednesday from 2-3 p.m. at Carson City Health and Human Services, the Workforce Strategies Workshop gives prospective employees a chance to work on important job skills. Our Workforce Development Coordinator, Ana Gregg, can help you prepare for your job search and learn the skills you need to become a better employee. Weekly sessions on topics such as interviewing and résumé-building are free of charge and open to anyone. In addition to the weekly Workshops, one-on-one coaching with the Workforce Development Coordinator is available to those who meet qualifying income guidelines to help with individualized résumé building and other skills.
Now is a great time to brush up on employment-search tactics before the job fair on Feb. 26 at the Carson City Community Center. More than 40 employers will be attending the job fair, looking for candidates to fill open positions. This is a great chance to meet with employers, learn about available jobs, and make a great first impression. You might even get hired. The job fair will take place from 2-4:30 p.m., and the doors will open early at 1:30 for veterans.
Make 2016 the year you land the job you’ve been looking for. Attend a Workforce Strategies Workshops every Wednesday between now and Feb. 26 to prepare yourself to shine at the job fair. Special sessions between now and the fair will focus on how to prepare for the job fair and what to expect there. Remember, the job fair is your chance to impress companies that are looking for new employees. Attend the workshops to learn how to polish your résumé, dress to impress, and give employers a reason to choose you for their opportunity.
If your goal for this year is to find a job, land a better job, or just become more skilled at interviewing or résumé writing, join our Workforce Strategies Workshop every Wednesday and plan to attend the job fair at the Carson City Community Center on Feb. 26.
