Senior Follies, a Corvette show and the annual chili cookoff are three of the just many important events taking place in Carson City during the next few weeks.

Carson City is always busy during the summer, but these three events sometimes fly under the radar.

This weekend, the annual chili cookoff featuring two days of live music, crafts, raffles and rides on military vehicles will take over Glen Eagles, 3700 N. Carson St., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The International Chili Society’s High Sierra Regional Chili Cookoff on Saturday and Nevada Capital Chili Cookoff on Sunday offers cooks the chance to submit their chili for judgement.

Proceeds go to Honor Flight, a nonprofit that takes veterans to Washington, D.C. For more information, call Big John at 775-315-3700.

Senior Follies features local seniors on stage dancing, singing, performing in skits and telling jokes.

Performances are at 7 p.m. July 15 and 16; and 1 p.m. July 16 and 17 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors, students and military personnel. Children 12 and under are free. All proceeds go to Carson City’s senior meals program.

Tickets can be purchased at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, or one hour before the performance. Tickets also can be reserved by calling the center at 775-883-0703.

Michael Hohl Motor Company invites Corvette owners and enthusiasts to its 6th Annual Reno Corvette Club Show & Shine from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17 at 3700 S. Carson St.
