Golden State Warriors Steph Curry headed to Lake Tahoe, American Century Championship

STATELINE — Two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry will join superstar athletes and entertainers at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe later this month.

Well known as an accomplished golfer, Curry finished fourth in the 2013 event and was immediately installed as one of the favorites to win, listed at 5-1 by the Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book. Curry’s father, Dell, who enjoyed a 16-year NBA career, is also in the field as is Curry’s Golden State Warriors teammate Andre Iguodala.

The tournament is Friday-Sunday, July 22-24, at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course with eight hours of live coverage set for NBCSN on Friday and NBC Sports Saturday and Sunday.

An outstanding high school golfer in North Carolina, Curry made his American Century Championship debut in 2010 following his rookie NBA season and finished tied for 28th place behind Michael Jordan (22nd), Marshall Faulk (18th) and Mark Rypien (6th). In 2013, Curry returned to Lake Tahoe and led in the final round after 11 holes before finishing fourth, just three points behind winner Billy Joe Tolliver.

Curry will make the 200-mile journey from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe just five weeks after the Warriors’ appearance in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers in their attempt to repeat as NBA Champions.

Curry will join a prominent lineup of more than 90 celebrities, including actor and musical artist Justin Timberlake, TNT NBA analyst Charles Barkley, NFL MVP and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, actor/comedian Ray Romano, NFL quarterbacks Carson Palmer, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Alex Smith, coaches Jim Harbaugh and Marvin Lewis and Hall of Famers Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Marcus Allen. The 27th annual tournament features $600,000 in prize money and has raised over $4.2 million for charity.
