NDOT announces roadwork at both ends of Carson City

The Nevada Department of Transportation says motorists should be ready for delays and lane closures because of projects at both ends of Carson City.

A spokeswoman said I-580 will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday as the contractor puts down new pavement in the area around Lakeview Hill. The northbound Eastlake Boulevard on and off ramps also will be closed down periodically for repaving.

There will also be intermittent lane and ramp closures during the week on I-580 and alternate 395 through Washoe Valley as roadway paving, striping and other improvements are finished.

Meanwhile, contractors will begin the process of sealing and resurfacing pavement on Carson Street south of Fairview where the bypass freeway currently ends.

There will be overnight lane closures from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sundays through Fridays until the $1.2 million project is finished this fall. The spokesman said nearly two miles of the road will be microsurfaced to smooth and protect the busy stretch of Carson Street. Officials say there will always be at least one lane open to traffic in each direction. The work is being done by Sierra Nevada Construction.

The Washoe Valley project is now 75 percent completed including work to seismically retrofit the Bellevue Bridge in the middle of the valley. Resident Engineer Brad Durski said major construction in the valley and on the Lakeview approach to Carson City will wrap up in August. The $15 million project is being done by Q&D Construction.
