On official business: The rumor that Col. Cradlebaugh has gone to Salt Lake to join the Mormons is wholly untrue. He has visited that saintly city for the purpose of settling certain matters of business concerning the Nevada troops stationed there.

Sulfur and frogs: The State Prison was deluged by rain and thunder. In the morning the officers were astonished to find the ground covered with sulfur, fine as flour and pure yellow. There also were millions of young frogs about half an inch long. It was explained that a water spout scooped up the frogs and sulfur from some lake and deposited it at the prison.
