Festive Greek dances, tearful speeches, and the happy clatter of food and wine filled the warm spring air as Maria Teresa Arrigotti wed John Nicholas Wehr May 28 in Jackson, Calif.

The bride wore an elegant cathedral gown made of ivory silk mikado. Her cathedral-length veil was trimmed in Alençon lace, jeweled with Swarovski crystals that glistened under the light from the stained glass windows of old St. Patrick Church.

Father Larry Beck officiated the ceremony. Maria’s college roommate, Christina O’Neil Bourne, sang at the service, while John’s brother, Phillip Wehr, read the gospel passages.

Maria’s brother, David Arrigotti, escorted their mother, Stephanie, down the aisle followed by John’s sons, Logan and Chase, who escorted John’s mother, Lupe, and father, Darrel. Maria’s father, Rich, gave his daughter away in marriage.

The celebration moved to Amador Cellars winery, where lush vineyards and a richly decorated barn served as a backdrop to hours of speeches, dining and dancing.

Maria surprised John by prerecording her performance of the Nat King Cole favorite, “At Last,” for their first dance.

Audiences in Northern Nevada know Maria for her solo performances with Toccata Symphony and with the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company, most recently as Maria in “The Sound of Music,” Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera” and Cosette in “Les Misérables.”

Maria graduated from Carson High School in 1997 and from the University of Nevada, Reno with a dual major in music and mathematics, followed by a master’s degree in mathematics. She served as professor and chair of the math department at Truckee Meadows Community College. The bride’s parents, Richard and Stephanie Arrigotti, are professors at Western Nevada College.

She was recently hired as a full-time lecturer at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.

The groom graduated from Deer Park High School in 1994 and from Spokane Community College in 1997 with an Associate of Science in Electrical Maintenance. John is a relay technician for Avista Power Company.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Maui and have settled in Spokane, Wash.
