Death of old resident: Mrs. Wayside, one of Carson City’s oldest inhabitants and an estimable lady, was twice married. Her first husband was the lamented Major Ormsby. His name will never be forgotten as he took part in the terrible massacre where he and many others died at the hands of the Piutes (sic). Mrs. Wayman died in San Francisco, the cause is unknown. She leaves two children, a daughter, 15, and an infant son. She was one of the most extensive property holders in the State of Nevada. Services to take place at the Presbyterian Church in Carson City.

All sorts: During all the time that the California editors have been in this city not a single chicken or silver spoon has been missed by anybody. Mrs. Governor Adams has lost her pet canary bird which is very tiny. His color is entirely yellow. A reward will be offered to any person returning the bird.

Insane: D. A. McIntosh, insane, jumped into the Truckee River and drowned himself. He imagined he could walk upon the water.

USS Nevada: Off Bikini Atoll — The underwater atomic bomb exploded with devastating force and spouted a giant dome of radioactive water. Observers were able to see 10 vessels, including the Battleship USS Nevada.

Penny carnival: A “Penny Carnival” will be held at Mills Park with each of the three schools. Each event will cost a penny. Fritsch School will sponsor the wild animal hunt, bean-bag throw and magnetic fish. Fremont School will have the fish, chip-toss-in-a-tray and sponge throw booths, and the Carson Elementary will have the side-show, candle shoot and refreshment walk.

Photo caption: Firefighters keep an eye on a car that went off the edge of Highway 50 miles from the base of Spooner Summit. The driver of the car had to be cut out of the wreckage and was taken to the hospital by Care Flight. The car rolled 200 feet down the hill to Clear Creek Road.
