Carson Tahoe Health’s 6th annual HopeFest to feature The Waybacks

Carson Tahoe Health Foundation’s 6th annual HopeFest, a free outdoor concert whose proceeds benefit local cancer patients, will be headlined by The Waybacks.

Founded in 1999 by singer, songwriter and guitarist James Nash, The Waybacks are an American four-piece band based out of San Francisco with a passion for musically improvising popular classics and playing as a “power trio with a fiddler.”

Known best for its progressive bluegrass roots, rock-n-roll influences and acoustic mayhem, The Waybacks bring nothing short of an incredible show to each performance, and that’s what HopeFest6 audiences can expect to enjoy this year.

“The whole spirit of improvisation — that’s always been the cornerstone of this band for me,” Nash said. “Through all the stylistic changes and regardless of the instruments we’re playing, to me the fun of this band has always been that in some ways I can do whatever I feel like doing at any moment.”

With influences from The Grateful Dead, Johnny Cash and Led Zeppelin, HopeFest6 concertgoers will hear overtones from legendary classics during the band’s original, upbeat performance.

HopeFest6 runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, 1535 Medical Parkway.

All proceeds from the event benefit local cancer patients with lifesaving support for the needs which extend beyond the hospital walls.
