Flags at half-mast: The flags flying from the Liberty pole in the Plaza and from the county buildings were at half-mast yesterday, out of respect to the memory of General Scott.

The Sutro Tunnel is now in a distance of 13,238 feet. The quantity of water now running out of it is 127 miner’s inches. The rock in the heading is porphyry of a uniform character, and is very difficult to drill and very hard to blast.

More real mining development is being done in Nevada today than ever before in its history and that this year’s output, from a monetary standpoint, will exceed that of any previous year, are beliefs that W.R. McFadden, of the Industrial Insurance Commission, expressed Saturday when asked by the Appeal to give some mining news.

State residents consumed 259,622 gallons of beer, 31,030 gallons of wine and 61,803 gallons of whiskey during the month of April 1946, according to a report from the office of Henry S. Coleman, supervisor of the state liquor tax department. The department collected $51,242.42 in excise taxes.

Sunday’s thunderstorm over Carson City has some unusual aftermaths, including a missing pet and a $100 reward. Roy C. Hall, a San Francisco attorney, is offering the reward for the return of his dog, a German shorthair pointer. The animal is named “Storm.”
